The haunted hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia

There are some destinations worldwide that people believe are haunted. I heard so many rumors about the haunted hotel in Jakarta that I almost didn’t want to go to work when I saw it on my roster. I woke up early morning hoping the destination was removed and some other place replaced it on my roster. I was not that lucky, but I checked the people I was flying with and my flat mate was included in the list, so that gave me relief and excitement. In my excitement, I couldn’t even breathe and at 5 in the morning, I went straight to her room without thinking that she must be asleep and jumped on her bed screaming, “We are going to be together on a flight”. I almost gave her a heart attack, but I realized that afterwards.

On the flight, we made another friend and she almost begged us to sleep in the same room. Since she was nice, all of us decided to sleep in the same room because we were really scared of staying alone. The entire time at work, people did not stop talking about the haunted hotel and came up with all sorts of stories. The stories were so scary and realistic that we almost didn’t want to disembark the plane. Some of the stories said that the ghost shows up as a black cat, some said that it won’t let you go out of the room; some said that she will start talking to you and so on.

We come up with a plan to stay in the room nearest to the exit, and that we won’t go alone in other rooms. To be honest with you, I really love the hotel and the place since it was my second time here. Even though nothing out of the ordinary had happened during my last stay, when you hear too many stories, it starts to take over your mind. It has got a particular mystical and mysterious feel that attracts me. It was a hot and humid evening, a bit cloudy and rainy as well, which is normal for Indonesia as it is a tropical country. The unique vegetation, the rainy evening and the mystical ambiance of the hotel can make one believe that something is not right in the air.

I can’t describe in words how panicked we were, so we didn’t walk even half a meter away from each other. On the way to the room, in pale dimmed light of the bulbs, we saw lizards climbing up the walls. Mosquito nets were covering the terrace at night since there was a mild risk of malaria. The more we walked through the corridors, in the humid hot air, the scarier it got. The architecture of the place was very unusual and gave us Goosebumps.

In the room, there were two small single beds, so all three of us could not sleep together in the same bed. After we changed, we decided to go in the other two rooms available to check if there was a king size bed in any of them so we can move. It was midnight and we walked almost hugging, wearing funny colorful pajamas, giggling a little in the gloomy corridors. We checked my room, and it had the same two small beds. We collected the water and quickly ran out. We opened the third room, but we didn’t even step inside as we were too scared. Besides the dark colors of the curtains matching with the bed cover, there was a funny heavy scent in the room and a weird feeling grasped our bodies. We just screamed and ran holding hands towards the dark garden. The two of my friends started smoking while the new girl said how lucky she was to actually be with us and sleep in the same room.

Later, we all went to the room and start moving the furniture around in order to attach the beds together so we can all be near to each other. With the amount of noise we had made in the past hours and with the furniture, anyone outside could be frightened and think there was actually a ghost in our room. The squeaking sound of our feet on the wooden floor and the screeching sound from moving the furniture around was enough to creep someone out at one a.m.

Once the beds were attached, we fell asleep exhausted after a tiring day. With a big disappointed I must say that we didn’t see any ghosts. However, I felt the bed vibrate at some point, but because I was asleep, I can’t recall if it was my tired leg or the bed that really vibrated. That night became one of the most memorable experiences for us.
